The Strength and Resilience of El Paso Strong

Over a year ago on August 3, 2019, the community of El Paso was victim to a heinous act of violence fueled by racism. Days following, George Lopez and Edward James Olmos celebrated life with the survivors of El Paso unspeakable tragedy, leaving 23 people dead and others wounded at mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas becoming one of the worst incident of racist violence targeting Latinos in recent American history. “We must also push back against hateful narratives that cast Latinos as outsiders. As Latino essential workers continue to battle against COVID-19, it’s never been clearer that Latino communities constitute an essential thread in the fabric of America,” stated Brown Issues who’s goal is cultivating the next generation of Brown Leaders through civic engagement, healing, and narrative change. Let’s honor the memory of those lost in El Paso by working to make this an America in which everyone belongs. Always remember El Paso Strong.

We Need Your Help for the Angel Valdez Family

Giving back.jpg

Over the July 4th holiday, Angel Valdez and his family lost all of their belongings and possessions as result of a fire from fireworks being set off to celebrate the Fourth of July. The fireworks ignited the palm trees surrounding the apartment complex where they live and within a matter of the minutes, the building caught fire.

Thankfully, Angel and his family were outside when the fire started and were not physically hurt. Angel is part of the amazing maintenance team where we host our annual George Lopez Golf Tournament. If you’re interested in helping Angel and his family contact us. Or click here to contribute to a GoFundMe campaign to help all the families affected by the fire.

Help Save Alfredo Diaz with Stem Cell Transplant

Alfredo Diaz, a 7 year old boy from Chicago, is in desperate need of a stem cell transplant to survive. Alfredo loves WWE wrestling, Pokeman and playing with Hercules, his dog. You could be his one hope to grow up and fulfill his hopes and dreams.

Unfortunately, Alfredo does not have a matching donor in his family or on the Be the Match Registry. This registry matches patients with lifesaving blood stem cell donors. Over 20 million people have joined the registry, however, there are still over 12,000 patients in need of lifesaving matches. Joining the registry is fast and easy. Anyone between the ages of 18-44 can complete a short online form and will then receive cheek swabs in the mail. The entire process takes just a few minutes and can be completed at home. 1 in 430 people who register will one day match a patient and save a life, and donating is not painful, most often resembling blood donation.

For patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases, a cure exists. Please join the Registry today to help Alfredo and other patients in need. Simply TEXT NursesUnited to 61474 or visit join.bethematch.org/NursesUnited. A sharable flyer and graphic about Alfredo is attached to this email. In addition to joining yourself, please forward this email to everyone in your network. Together we can save lives!
