March 8th is World Kidney Day

Every March is National Kidney Month and Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a worldwide public health problem. This year World Kidney Day and International Women's Day will be celebrated on March 8 2018! 

Did you know that CKD affects approximately 195 million women worldwide and it is currently the 8th leading cause of death in women, with close to 600,000 deaths each year according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation?

Let's join other organizations to make an impact on World Kidney Day and raise awareness about Kidney Disease!

World Kidney Day and it's time to Dance

The Word Kidney Day organization is inviting everyone from around the globe, from all cultures and ages to get up and get moving to celebrate their kidneys. The kidneys are vital organs and we should take special care of because they are crucial to our overall health. Did you know your kidneys help:

  1. Regulate water
  2. Remove waste products and help to balance the body's minerals
  3. Produce hormones

Join the "Move Your Feet" online action and get moving!

  1. Take a picture of your feet in action
  2. Share it on your social media accounts with the hashtag #moveyourfeet4wkd
  3. Be creative, keep active and involve your friends and family!

George Lopez awarded President's Medal by ASN

At Kidney Week 2015, the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) presented the President's Medal to award-winning actor, comedian and philanthropist George Lopez. A kidney transplant recipient, Mr. Lopez is being recognized for his leadership in raising awareness of kidney health issues and his dedication to improving the lives of those burdened by kidney diseases, through the work of the George Lopez Foundation.
